The Irish Draught Horse Society (IDHS) was established in the summer of 2020 to faithfully maintain a studbook of purebred and part-bred Irish Draught horses. Our aim is to strengthen the Irish Draught breed within this community.
The foundation for any society is its members and we strive for an active membership by actively working with other organizations to promote our breed and its versatility. We believe in keeping our members informed, up-to-date, and to help celebrate their personal victories. Membership with the IDHS offers a variety of benefits while supporting the maintenance and growth of the studbooks.
Throughout the year we encourage you to enter your Irish Draughts and Irish Sport Horses into our official grading shows where you can gain points to put towards official breed titles. It is our belief that by diligently holding annual inspections we are ensureing that the breed remains true to type. Breeders and owners of pure Irish Draught horses are proud and dedicated to the breed and it's versatility.

A BRIEF HISTORY
The Irish Draught Horse Society (IDHS) was founded in late 2020 due to a love of the purebred Irish Draught. The breeds #1 ambassador is, without a doubt, Lidija of Rotherford Estate. She has been breeding and showcasing the purebred Irish Draught within various Sims 3 communities since 2011, never once waivering from her dedication. In the beginning Irish Draguht's were limited in the show ring and Lidija diligently worked to change that. She was able to accomplish this by getting the breed approved to jump 1.40 instead of 1.30.
It was in early 2019 when Breanna's love for the breed started to grow. After basically stalking Lidija's horses and learning all she could about the breed, she fell in love. She even dedicated about a month or two of her real time to researching purebred Irish Draught pedigrees in an effort to get both the roan and dun coat colors accepted within the old Equus-Sims breed standard.
It wasn't long before Breanna wanted to start a registry with the hopes of promoting the breed she had fallen in love with. Most of the community knew her from her Warmblood and Arabian stable but she was determined to build an empire with Irish Draughts and to push them into the spotlight. Not long after this she and Lidija joined forces in creating the Irish Draught Horse Society to hold shows and keep an official registry and studbook for the members which is what lead to the creation of this website.

THE IRISH DRAUGHT ONE OF THE STRONGEST AND TOUGHEST HORSE BREEDS IN THE ENTIRE WORLD
The Irish Draught Horse is considered to be one of the strongest and toughest horse breeds in the entire world. Being native to Ireland, the breed was initially bred for farm use, but it gradually became a popular breed for events such as horse racing, show jumping, and other equestrian events. Over the years, breeders have used several cross-breeding techniques to create the most powerful, muscular, and warmblooded variant, which has indeed led to several Irish Sport Horses exerting their dominance in various disciplines.
Prior to the invention of the internal combustion engine, horses were the primary form of transportation and enabled humankind to travel faster and further than ever before. For more than 6000 years, horses contributed massively to the development of human civilization and to this day, remain one of the most popular mammals for entertainment and creative purposes. The Irish Draughts are one of the best examples that have sustained years of refinement and honing of breeding technologies.
The Irish Draught has a rich history in terms of pedigree and breeding status, but it rose to prominence during the early-to-mid-nineteenth and the early twentieth century. Irish farmers had a unique need from their steeds... they required their horses to not only work the lands during the week and to also take the family to the Church on the weekends, but then they needed them to spend time in the fields and woods, hunting. Therefore, these very particular needs required the horses to be strong, lean, and possess the ability to jump obstacles better than the other breeds. Such were the prerequisites that led to years of careful breeding to create the Irish Draught. The Irish Draught possess some of the most excellent qualities that provided a foundation for breeders to cross-breed the species with thoroughbreds to create the most popular horse breed for equestrian events today, the Irish Sport Horse.
Although the documented history of the breed considers the 19th century to be the turning point, there have been numerous references to horses with similar characteristics way before the 18th century. Although extensive cross-breeding with thoroughbreds and warmbloods may have led to the creation of the now popular Irish Sport Horse, it is undoubtedly a risk that has resulted in endangering the pureblood species.
